Bear's Story

Bear's Story

Our beloved Shih Tzu, Bear, was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease at the age of nine. Our once joyous and carefree companion suddenly appeared disheartened, faced urinary difficulties, and had reduced energy levels. Although medication provided relief, Bear was not his usual self.

In pursuit of a holistic solution, we decided to prepare fresh, organic, cooked meals for him. Remarkably, his symptoms began to gradually abate. Bear regained his joyful and spirited nature, reminding us of the importance of diet in maintaining our pets' health.

Peter and Trisha's Story

Peter and Trisha's Story

Around the time Bear began to exhibit symptoms, Peter underwent a health check-up and discovered that he was deficient in vitamin D and had elevated cholesterol levels due to his demanding role as a management consultant. Often working up to 20-hour days optimising products and strategy for Global Fortune 500 companies, he relied on takeaway meals, which took a toll on his health.

After extensively researching the impact of diet and well-being in both humans and dogs, we decided to switch to fresh, cooked, certified organic meals as the foundation of our diet. We all saw improvements in our health—more energy and better digestion.

That realisation led Peter to make a life-changing decision: he decided to focus his efforts on bringing better nutrition to dogs. With two engineering degrees, he ensures that every aspect of our process—from ingredient sourcing to cooking and packaging—is designed for high quality and safety. His business background, including an MBA from the University of Oxford, helps us navigate the complexities of bringing a fresh, certified organic pet food brand to life.

Trisha is a special education teacher who has loved dogs from a young age. Her expertise, along with her graduate studies in development, educational psychology, and special education, brings a unique perspective to Bear & Birdy. She ensures that every aspect of our brand—from packaging to presentation—feels warm, thoughtful, and engaging. Her deep understanding of well-being and learning has shaped our approach, recognising that, just like children, dogs thrive best with proper nutrition, consistency, and care.

Seeing the transformation in both Bear and ourselves, we knew we had to make fresh, certified organic meals accessible to more dogs. That’s why we created Bear & Birdy—to give dogs the same chance at a long, healthy life.
